Connect Claude, Cursor, VS Code or Codex to WPConvert
Connect Claude, Cursor, VS Code or Codex to WPConvert with one URL and convert your website to a WordPress theme from your AI app.
WPConvert works inside your AI app through MCP, the standard way AI apps connect to other services. You add one URL to your app, sign in to WPConvert once and click Allow. Then you ask your app to convert your site, and it gives you the links to upload, preview and download.
The URL is the same for every app:
https://mcp.wpconvert.ai/mcp
There is nothing to install and no API key to copy. Signed in to WPConvert, you can also find every step below, with one-click buttons, under API & CLI in your dashboard.
Before you start
- A WPConvert account. The free plan converts your site; you unlock the theme on your dashboard to download it. Paid plans download right away.
- Your site as a ZIP file. Your app gives you a link to upload it.
Claude (web and desktop)
- Open Settings → Connectors.
- Click Add custom connector, name it WPConvert and paste the URL.
- Click Connect, sign in to WPConvert and click Allow.
Claude Code
Run this once in your terminal. --scope user makes WPConvert available in every project:
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user wpconvert https://mcp.wpconvert.ai/mcp
Then type /mcp in Claude Code, pick wpconvert and choose Authenticate.
Cursor
Use Add to Cursor on your dashboard, or add WPConvert to ~/.cursor/mcp.json:
{
"mcpServers": {
"wpconvert": {
"url": "https://mcp.wpconvert.ai/mcp"
}
}
}
Cursor asks you to sign in the first time it connects.
VS Code
Use Install in VS Code on your dashboard, or add WPConvert to .vscode/mcp.json:
{
"servers": {
"wpconvert": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://mcp.wpconvert.ai/mcp"
}
}
}
Codex
codex mcp add wpconvert --url https://mcp.wpconvert.ai/mcp
codex mcp login wpconvert
The first command adds WPConvert, the second signs you in.
Other apps
Any app that supports remote MCP servers works: add a server of type HTTP (Streamable HTTP) with the URL above. The app opens the WPConvert sign-in page when it first connects.
Your first conversion
Ask your app:
- "Use WPConvert to turn my website into a WordPress theme." It gives you a link: open it and drop your site's ZIP there.
- "Check my conversion and show me a preview." You get a link to your theme running in WordPress.
- "Give me the download link for my theme." The link works only for your WPConvert account.
Working in a project folder?
If your app runs on your computer and your site is a folder of code, the local server zips the folder for you, with no upload step:
npx -y @wpconvert/mcp
It needs Node.js 18 or later. The setup for each app is under API & CLI in your dashboard, and on the developer page.
Troubleshooting
- No sign-in page opened. In Claude Code, type
/mcp, pickwpconvertand choose Authenticate. In Codex, runcodex mcp login wpconvert. Elsewhere, remove WPConvert and add it again. - Your app says WPConvert no longer accepts its sign-in. Connect it again; it asks you to sign in.
- See or remove connected apps. Your dashboard lists them under Settings → Connected apps. Disconnect signs an app out at once.
